Business with Social Impact in Emerging Markets is an international project initiated within the UN PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education) and realized by the Institute of Business Studies RANEPA in partnership with the Universidad de Colombia School of Management, ISAE – Brazilian Business School, SPJIMR-Bharatiya Vidaya Bhavan (India) and University of Monterrey (Mexico). The project is meant to create unique learning experiences in different contexts and countries (Brazil – Colombia – India – Russia – Mexico) to connect students with variety of situations, problems and opportunities to lead them to transform social issues in successful business models.

The module was aimed at fostering relationships to set up business models with a focus on implementing social projects to benefit the society. The agenda included multinational sessions with Mexican professors and social entrepreneurs, as well as professionals in the field of social innovation, interactive online communication, and independent group work of module participants.

On the last day of the module teams from Russia, Brazil, Colombia, India and Mexico made presentations to share the experience of using social innovations to address social challenges. The fallowing companies were presented:

  • «Haqdarshak» Indian telecommunications company;
  • «Lush» cosmetics;
  • «TerraCycle» social enterprise;
  • «Casai» Mexican developer;
  • «Choco to Dance» Colombian initiative;
  • «Ashoka» foundation.

These companies implement principles of social responsibility and sustainable development in their operation that makes global business more socially-driven.

All the teams demonstrated high level of awareness on the issue.

Elizaveta Makeeva, a 3rd-year student of the International Relations Department, shares emotions on her experience: «Each BSIEM Module reveals new fascinating aspects of social entrepreneurship and sustainable development. We’ve learned more about business models of social entrepreneurship and the role of social innovations. Besides, we’ve discussed the impact of Covid-19».

Alena Sviridenko, another 3rd-year International Relations Department student, points out: “The speakers paid special attention to digital transformations in social entrepreneurship, social innovations and the role of indigenous people in addressing social issues. Moreover the week has provided a unique opportunity to network with the speakers and participants!».

The module participants were left convinced that Mexican experience will be a key in developing their own projects and become a steppingstone for their further advances in the field of social innovation for sustainable development. Together with them we are looking forward to the upcoming BSIEM modules!
